View from Schloss Kapfenstein, Styria

Harvesttime

of beer, wine and nature's bounty

With the forests and meadows changing color, cool air currents traversing the rays of sunshine and the last pilgrims of summertime returning to their hometowns, in the midst of this final farewell to summer a new wonder is born. All of the patience and waiting, the tending and nurturing culminates in a grand finale. The hard work is followed by enjoyment of the harvest. Our collection of historic establishments and creative spirits also includes a group of exceptional gastrophers.

Aside from actual Schlosshotels such as Schloss Kapfenstein and Schloss Englar, where the host families also operate renowned wine estates (Weingut Winkler-Hermaden and Weingut Schloss Englar), our collection is home, too, to extraordinary oases of delectation not associated with a hotel. These include such members of the Schlosshotels family as the wine estates of Sepp Moser and Schloss Gobelsburg as well as Stiegl-Brauwelt Paracelsusstube. In our wine & epicurean partnerships, Schlosshotels & Herrenhäuser lends further expression to its striving for that which – in an otherwise all-too-standardized world – is truly extraordinary and precious.

And so we indulge ourselves in delectation, in appreciation of the devoted work and the waiting. In gratitude for the harvest.

Schloss Kapfenstein, Vulkanland

Gourmet Schloss Kapfenstein

Schloss Kapfenstein lies in the Vulkanland region surrounded by vineyards. Exceptional wines meet incomparable hospitality. In addition to their Schlosshotel in Styria, the Winkler-Hermaden family operates an outstanding ORGANIC wine estate. For some years now, the best red wines, though also fine whites, have been allowed to mature there in barriques. The wood used to make the oak barrels comes from their own forest on the Kapfensteiner Kogel. The variety of their wines is best enjoyed in the course of a multi-day stay at Schloss Kapfenstein. True to that end, this Schlosshotel offers Gourmet Days during the week.

Brewed with utter sensitivity - Stiegl-Brauwelt Paracelsusstube

Aside from the wine which is a common thread through the history of Schlosshotels, there is yet another exquisite beverage that enjoys a long tradition amidst our historic walls: beer. In the lovingly furbished “Paracelsusstube”, the exclusive restaurant of Stiegl-Brauwelt, classics of regional cuisine are creatively interpreted, freshly prepared and – when befitting – refined with fresh Stiegl beers. The full-flavored herbs come from their own garden and many a fine ingredient – such as the meat of Pinzgau cattle – originates on their own organic farm, Schlosshotel member-establishment Stiegl-Gut Wildshut. They work with whatever nature and the season provide. This includes, incidentally, many a rarity found barely anywhere else. And in keeping with what you might expect from an “authentic” brewery restaurant, the certified beer sommeliers of Stiegl-Brauwelt can be counted on to recommend the ideal companion beer for your chosen dish, guiding you through a diverse world of beery enjoyment. If desired, you may also advance-order a beer Tasting Menu at the restaurant.
