Romantic refuge at Schloss Schönau

Spend unforgettable days in the former hunting lodge at Schloss Schönau, nestled amid one of the most magnificent landscaped parks in Austria – right at the gateway to Vienna. Just 30 km south of Vienna, close to Bad Vöslau and Baden, this hunting lodge offers elegant accommodations in an absolutely green and peaceful setting, surrounded by a big 30-hectare, historically-listed landscaped English garden.

Stylish apartments near Baden and Bad Vöslau

At the lodge, you have several tastefully remodelled and fully equipped guest apartments to choose from, which you can enjoy on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. All apartments are combinable, also with the opportunity to rent out the entire hunting lodge for an exclusive holiday, or special occasions such as weddings or corporate events.

Schloss Schönau – ever a centre of attraction

Emperors, kings and nobility – the castle has seen many interesting owners and visitors: Baron von Braun was responsible for establishing the first silk spinning mill in Austria, and would host summertime sledge rides in the castle park on road salt. The czar of Russia marvelled at the “Goddess in the Temple of Night”. King Jerome Bonaparte spent his exile here, after losing the Battle of Waterloo with his brother, Napoleon. Archduke Otto von Habsburg redesigned the castle complex and created an artists’ studio. The last Austrian emperor, Charles, played as a child in the extensive grounds, while the “Red Archduchess” Elisabeth Windischgrätz invited guests to join her for séances and psychoanalytical discussions.

And Schönau has lost absolutely none of its appeal since then: strolls beneath centuries-old plane trees, swimming in a natural castle pond or the heated pool, jogging along a fragrant woodland pathway, a convivial evening spent on the terrace at the forest’s edge, a visit to the nearby golf course, an outing to the Vienna Woods, to the top of the Hohe Wand, to the cultural city of Baden or to the shores of the Neusiedlersee! The time spent at Schönau simply flies by!

Special highlights during your stay at the Schloss Schönau hunting lodge: Enjoy an absolutely green and peaceful setting in the middle of an enormous park, yet just outside Vienna. Don’t be surprised if you wake up in the morning to a deer standing out on your terrace. Take a refreshing dip in the castle pond or bring along your ice skates. Rent the entire hunting lodge and reside in your own castle park. Treat yourself to an excursion from Vienna to Schönau, including a romantic walk and a night spent amid the park. Allow yourself to be enchanted by the mysterious Temple of the Night in the castle park.
