Family Vacations at Schlosshotels

Space for adventure, retreat, and memories forged together

Laughter in the stairwell. Shoes left behind. Barefoot across cool stone and creaking wood, out into the warm grass of the castle garden. One more story, one more glass of water, not quite ready to sleep just yet.

Traveling with children is a lively affair, sometimes a little chaotic, often surprising – and that’s exactly where the magic lies. Our family-friendly Schlosshotels & Herrenhäuser are places where nothing has to run like clockwork. Where running and laughter are part of the day. Where lakes and mountains begin right outside the door, cities spark curiosity, and old walls provide space – for little feet. And big strides.

Parkhotel Holzner: A family, culture, and culinary hotel for all generations

“Our aim is to be the most beautiful vacation destination in the Alpine region for every generation of the family.”

At Parkhotel Holzner, every generation finds its place – with thoughtfully designed facilities and spaces that allow both quiet retreat and lively togetherness. Surrounding the hotel is a 10,000 m² park with adventure playground, petting zoo, broad meadows, and hidden corners waiting to be discovered. Inside, there is ample room to play, climb, and laugh. Meanwhile, the museum on the top floor, adventure-filled guided tours of the house, and cultural evenings show that history and culture are simply part of everyday life here.

Children’s program & active family time

Seven days a week, the Holzidrago team delights children with a variety-filled, age-appropriate program. Throughout the hotel and its surroundings, children play, build, craft, and explore – sometimes in the forest and meadows, sometimes in the creative workshop. Occasionally families cook together: rustling up the “Legendary Soup Pot,” ingredients are chopped, stirred, and tasted – simultaneously learning where our food actually comes from. Once a week, the Holzner family personally leads a group family hike, including small games along the way plus a picnic with tasty products from South Tyrol. Additional activities are designed specifically to bring all generations together.

Relaxation for the whole family in the Family Spa

In the Family Spa, two connected pools, family saunas, a bio sauna, and a steam bath invite guests to unwind together. You will also find a dedicated family relaxation room overlooking the park, and with direct access to the sunbathing lawn. Babies and toddlers splash happily about in a pool of their very own. And anyone who feels like a moment of total peace & quiet can simply retreat to the adjacent Liberty Spa.

Culinary enjoyment for food fans big and small

At meal time, everyone comes back together. Some children sit with their parents at the family table, while others prefer the supervised “Kids Diner,” where they can eat and laugh with the new friends they have made. On their plates: a specially designed children’s menu, freshly prepared and inspired by the same gourmet cuisine served to the grownups – just simpler and more kid-friendly. For the youngest guests, baby food can also be prepared on request, while a juice bar awaits in the play area. In summer, the whole family gathers for the weekly garden barbecue under an open sky.

Ansitz Felsenheim: Plenty of space. Plenty of garden. Plenty of time.

Breakfast in your pajamas. An afternoon nap with zero time pressure. Evenings that last as long as you like. The spacious family apartments at Ansitz Felsenheim, with their own kitchen, generous living space, and multiple bedrooms, offer exactly this kind of freedom: cook for yourself, prepare a spontaneous snack, begin or end the day whenever works best for you. No one is rushing. No one is watching the clock. A home away from home that lets families follow their own rhythm.

Between house and garden

Outside, a large garden reveals itself and quickly evolves into a second living room. Somewhere a table tennis ball ping-pongs over a net, laughter echoes from the trampoline. Play equipment and wide lawns offer plenty of space to run and have fun. Inside, a big playroom awaits younger children, while a billiards room brings teenagers and adults together. In the evening, the whole family gathers around the grill – uncomplicated, sociable, together.

Where adventures begin right outside the door

The location in Lermoos also makes everything so easy. Hiking paths begin right in front of the house, and in winter the ski areas are close by. No long distances, no complicated planning – simply head right out whenever the mood takes you.

Schloss Hotel Fernsteinsee: Family adventures between castle, lake, and mountains

A castle by the water. Morning mist hovering over the lake. Footsteps on gravel fading at the shoreline. Schloss Hotel Fernsteinsee unites three buildings: the historic castle itself, the hotel, and Villa Lorea situated peacefully next to a mountain stream. Together they form a spacious ensemble with three private lakes.

Outdoors, where the adventure begins

Barely one step outside the door and the landscape reveals itself before your eyes. Rowboats glide across the lake. Paths lead across the grounds, through patches of forest, along the water’s edge, and all the way to a small castle ruin on an island. Hikes begin right outside the door, as do excursions into the surrounding mountains. One special highlight for explorers: guests staying two nights or more receive exclusive permission to dive in the private lakes – an experience justifiably ranked among the “100 TOPS OF THE WORLD.”

Living between history and nature

The rooms and suites at Schloss Hotel Fernsteinsee combine historic character with ample space for families. Those who prefer even greater independence can retreat to Villa Lorea: four Alpine-style apartments just a few minutes’ walk away. A small private house by the stream – close enough to still feel part of the castle, yet quiet enough to allow you to follow your own personal rhythm.

Heritage Hotel Hallstatt: A place to discover

Hallstatt is world-famous. A place that inspires wonder – especially when seen through the eyes of children. Boats on the lake, narrow lanes that feel like pathways in a fairy tale, and mountains reflected in the water. Guests staying at Heritage Hotel Hallstatt are right in the middle of it all – and at the same time, part of an ensemble that spans centuries.

Living with views of the water and mountains

Heritage Hotel Hallstatt encompasses three historic patrician houses directly on the shore of Lake Hallstatt – Haus Kainz, Haus Seethaler, and Haus Stocker. Behind the old façades are rooms and family suites that give families the space to settle in and make themselves completely at home. Many offer views of the lake or the mountains – the water glistens in the morning sunshine, and in the evening the lights shimmer along the shoreline. Breakfast by the lake becomes the quiet beginning of a day full of discoveries.

Between lanes, lake, and Salzberg

Walks lead through narrow lanes, along paths around the lake, or out into the Hallstätter Echerntal – via boat landings, quiet lakeside pathways, and a public playground just a short distance from the hotel. The funicular carries visitors up to the oldest salt mine in the world still in operation today. Dark tunnels, shimmering veins of salt, tales of that “white gold” that shaped Hallstatt for centuries. Here the past suddenly comes alive – especially for children exploring the tunnels with wide-eyed curiosity. Just a few steps farther along and the Skywalk reveals sweeping views across Lake Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains.

Here, nature, culture, and history are not explained – they are experienced. Water and mountains are always close at hand. And families take home one thing above all: the feeling of having discovered something together.

Hotel Altstadt Vienna: Experience art. Discover Vienna.

In the Seventh District, between narrow side streets and vibrant city life, lies Hotel Altstadt Vienna. Behind the classic façade is a house filled with individually designed rooms and a keen sense of style and design. Each suite is unique, created by artists and designers – including names such as Lena Hoschek and Atelier Olschinsky. A place where families experience art and architecture as a natural part of their stay – and where Vienna begins right outside the front door.

Experience art & architecture

At Hotel Altstadt Vienna, art doesn’t simply hang on the walls – you live right in the midst of it. Original works line the stairwell, designer pieces accent the rooms, and every space has its own distinct character. In the salon, guests read, talk, and plan the day ahead, while outside the city keeps moving along at its own pace. Culture here is not some scheduled activity but rather a part of daily life – quite natural, even for children.

In the midst of the city. In the midst of the goings-on

A couple of steps outside the door – and Vienna begins. Cobblestones, cafés, the quiet hum of the Seventh District. The MuseumsQuartier and the Natural History Museum are just a short walk away, and the city center is also within easy reach. And if the day calls for venturing farther afield, the subway quickly carries the family to Schönbrunn or the Prater. Here, Vienna doesn’t feel in the slightest bit sprawling, but rather lively, almost intimate – and close to everything that makes this city so exciting for young and old alike.

Ultimately, it often comes down to the simple things: being out and about together. Having time. Discovering whatever the day brings your way. And isn’t that precisely the most wonderful part of a vacation spent with your family?
