Tyrolean mountains and the Viennese theater scene combined in the Tobias Moretti Room
Tobias Moretti is someone who is reluctant to leave home. Yet, he always enjoys returning to the Altstadt Vienna, something he has done now for more than two decades.
With 62 different rooms & suites, it is hardly surprising that, during his 20 years as a regular guest at Altstadt Vienna, the actor once found himself in a hotel room that didn’t resonate with him at all. Feeling far too entangled in the mind and home of the designing architect himself, he complained. Even to the owner.
“In that case, he should go ahead and design one for himself,” was the latter’s response. And so it was that Tobias Moretti was given the opportunity to design his very own room at his favorite hotel in Vienna.
With the assistance of interior designer Eugenie Arlt and artist Degenhard Andrulat, the Tyrolean native created a space bridging his two worlds, the Tyrolean mountains and the Viennese theater scene. The result is a connection between urbanity and nature encountered only on the Austrian stage.

Which is probably Tobias Moretti's favourite room at the Altstadt Vienna?
Interestingly, the bed in the room comes from the hand of Moretti’s own carpenter, resembling his own so closely that he had to take a second look upon seeing it for the first time. Another striking feature is the large photo wallpaper opposite the bed. Taken by him, it captures the breathtaking scenery of the Tyrolean mountains in winter and Moretti’s hunting grounds. Framed by a stage curtain.
Notwithstanding, during his visits to Vienna Tobias Moretti frequently prefers to sleep in his old favorite room, allowing other guests the pleasure of immersing themselves in his two worlds for a night.
To learn more about the creative process behind the Moretti Room at the Altstadt Vienna, we suggest listening to Moretti himself. You can hear him on the hotel’s podcast “Willkommen im Hotel Altstadt Vienna,” available on all major podcast platforms, in German only.
