Bregenz Festival July 20 to August 21, 2011
The Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz Festival) is a performing arts festival which is held every July and August in Bregenz (Vorarlberg) in Austria and occupies a permanent place on the international festival agenda. The Seebühne (or floating stage) is the location for large-scale opera or musical performances on a stage over water on the shores of Lake Constance and is famous for its extra-ordinary interaction between the beauty of the natural scene, extravagantly original and innovative stage design and music at its finest.
There is perhaps nothing more splendid than a mild summer’s night spent at this place.
This year, the Opera on the Lake presents André Chénier, the most famous work by the italien composer Umberto Giordano. The opera in four acts, sung in Italian is a brilliantly vivid historical drama and a human tragedy of shattering intensity.
