Saalbach - Salzburg - Austria
At this elegant establishment located in the center of Saalbach, surrounded by a fantastic mountain world, great store has been placed in outstanding hospitality for over 550 years.
Glemmtal and Saalbach – a region with a rich history
Glemmtal valley was already settled back in ancient times, serving as a major transportation route between Pinzgau and Tyrol. In comparison, the main town of the valley today, Saalbach, is relatively young. In 1350, word has it that there was little more than a farm here. But as mining became increasingly important, the settlement also continued to grow over time. The precise year in which the church was built is not known, though it was first chronicled in the year 1410.
In the 15th century, the town became more and more important, with clear evidence provided in 1431. In this year, Hermann Grieser, major domo to the archbishop, granted a license to brothers Heinrich and Nikolaus Habichler to serve wine and run a tavern in their building – home of today’s “Hotel Gasthof Post”. To do so, they were obligated to pay an annual charge of “one pound in pennies”. This is one of those rare cases where it is possible to establish the precise age of a traditional inn.
