Special Award
“Heritage & Experience” Almásy Mansion, Gyula, Hungary

The Heritage Hotels of Europe Awards are dedicated to recognize the unique excellence among Heritage Hotels and to honor all the people who are the soul of these outstanding properties.

Each property nominated by the public has been evaluated by an experienced 7-persons committee, with winners selected from nearly 100 nominees in 13 different countries. The jury looked closely at all aspects of the guest experience in seven categories: Design, Wellness, Gastronomy, Hospitality, Culture, Romance as well as Host of the Year.

For the first time, an award of “Heritage Hotels of Europe” goes to Portugal: Hotel Britania, member of the local group “Lisbon Heritage Hotels”, is the perfect example how tradition and modernity may live side by side and therefore is the winner in the category “Heritage & Design”.

The exceptional and continued excellence in the field of spa & wellness has been recognized by the jury by granting the Award “Heritage & Wellness” for the second time in a row, to the Grandhotel Praha in Tatranská Lomnica, Slovakia.

In 2019, the award “Heritage & Gastronomy” goes again to Austria. This year’s winner is Hotel Restaurant See-Villa in Millstatt on lake Millstätter See. The combination of regional-traditional and modern-international cuisine accompanied by carefully selected wines, with wines also from the hoteliers’ own vineyards, convinced the jury.

Castle Hotel Szidónia in Röjtökmuzsaj in Hungary has been selected by the jury for its hospitality that is dedicated with devotion to the hotel guests by the whole hotel team and all day long. The impressive castle located near lake Neusiedl has therefore been granted with the merited award “Heritage & Hospitality”.

This year’s “Heritage & Culture” award goes to Hotel Hviezdoslav (Slovakia). Situated in the historic center of the ancient royal city Kežmarok, this boutique-hotel is the ideal place to experience many different cultural moments, such as visiting various exhibitions and museums, the Roman Catholic Basilica of the Saint Cross and its Belfry, the Lyceum library, the Evangelical Church etc.

Everybody who is in love is one day searching for a very special place to spend exceptional moments together. There is a hint: this year’s winner of the “Heritage & Romance” award, fairy-tale Castle Hotel Galicia Nueva in Halič, Slovakia.

“Host of the Year 2019” is the last award of the seven categories and has been keenly awaited by the hoteliers attending the ceremony. The secret was disclosed, and the Holzner family from Parkhotel Holzner in Soprabolzano (South Tyrol, Italy), has been awarded “Host of the Year” in appreciation of their outstanding South-Tyrolean authentically sense of taking care of their guests.

Finally, the jury decided to grant exceptionally a special award in 2019 in the category “Heritage & Experience”, which goes to Almásy Mansion in Gyula (Hungary). Almásy Mansion is a museum cherishing Heritage with permanent and temporary exhibitions, function rooms for all kind of events and a perfectly integrated high quality café inviting for a delicious break.

“Heritage Hotels of Europe” is a federation of hotel associations and historic properties from several countries in Europe. They all got united to present their beautiful, one-of-a-kind and tradition-rich hotels under one flag.
