This castle was once the most powerful fortification on the River Rhine, with the legendary Lorelei rock located not far away. After several changes in ownership and the turmoil of war, Schloss Rheinfels first became a hotel in 1973.
Gerd Ripp, Innovator and Out-of-the-Box Thinker
At the tender age of just 21, Gerd Ripp graduated from the Berlin School of Hotel Management (the youngest ever to do so) and, in 1982, took over as general manager of the castle, eventually becoming the owner in 2003.
Countless remodeling projects and additions resulted in the creation of a modern conference center, wellness facilities, a fitness room and new dining areas. The gardens were also completely redesigned. The result: Within the briefest of time, 3-star lodgings were transformed into a 4-star-superior hotel.

Gerd Ripp, who is regarded within the industry as an innovator and out-of-the-box thinker, received numerous awards, such as the Golden Medal of Honor from Chaîne des Rotisseurs, the German Innovation Award for the “Villa Rheinfels” conference concept, and a distinction as the “Best Mid-Sized Employer”. In addition, Schloss Rheinfels has been selected as one of the top-3 conference hotels in Germany on multiple occasions.
