Hosts of the Year 2014: Simone and Maximilian Falkner of Landhotel Falkner in Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis (Upper Austria)
The coveted title of “Host of the Year” goes to Upper Austria. “Castle Hotels & Mansions” honored Simone and Maximilian Falkner as Hosts of the Year 2014.
The excitement is always great until the last minute when, within the framework of the general assembly of Castle Hotels & Mansions (held this year at Hotel Richard Löwenherz, Dürnstein) the coveted title as “Host of the Year” is announced. This year’s selection fell in favor of the Falkner family of the hotel of the same name, a true gem and an insider tip located in Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis, Upper Austria.
“Small Landhotel Falkner sees itself as a hotel of culture and gourmet cuisine”, explains Max Eidlhuber, President of Castle Hotels & Mansions. “For a long time, owner Maximilian Falkner has been creating outstanding regional dishes with organic products predominantly from the Mühlviertel region. The salon, with its exceptionally well stocked library, entices guests to withdraw from the daily routine and discover an opportunity for inner reflection. Furthermore, Simone and Maximilian Falkner are also actively involved in the development of golf in the upper Mühlviertel, with their guest offers impressively enriched by their attractive golf packages”, praises Eidlhuber.

This 4-star hotel has shown itself to be a perfect address to disappear from the grey daily routine. Its location high above the Danube is unique, perched on a narrow, steeply sloping rocky ridgeline not far from the famous “Schlögen Loop”. The Mühlviertel itself has an almost mystical feel to it, a region with ancient cultural roots nestled between the Bohemian Forest and the Danube, home to many rewarding excursion destinations.
The building was formerly the hunting lodge belonging to the adjacent, centuries-old Schloss Marsbach with its own very storied history. As early as the beginning of the 20th century, it had become a popular destination for those in search of a summer getaway from the city. An especially home-style atmosphere is radiated by the twelve individually and lovingly appointed rooms, a unique library with around 1,000 books, winter garden, piano room and the terrace with marvelous views extending far out across the Danube. Pilates and Feldenkrais workshops, along with a sauna and swimming pool, provide perfect opportunities to unwind.
