It is the better part of one thousand years since Volkhold - the heir of "Suanapurc" - lost interest in earthly splendor, turned his castle into a convent in 1039, and from that point on lived as a hermit. The convent he had founded, well appointed with rich estates and an array of political and judicial rights, developed into a highly regarded abbey for women of nobility.
