The enchanting Hotel U Zlatých nuzek (At the Golden Scissors) is located right in the heart of the ancient district of Malá Strana, on Kampa island, ranked the second most beautiful urban island in the world, according to VirtualTourist. You’ll find this cozy 4 star hotel only a few metres from the famed Charles Bridge in an exceptionally quiet location, on Na Kampe square.
Kampa - one of the most beautiful islands in the world
Originally a Renaissance corner house dating from 1586, reconstructed in 1804 by Czech architect of Italian descent Ignác Palliardi in the Classicist style it bears to this day, the building is one of the oldest on Kampa island. Great names such as actor and writer Jan Werich lived here, also prominent composer Bohuslav Martin and poet Vladimír Holan, and the house itself was inhabited by painter and illustrator Adolf Kašpar.
The earliest written records about Kampa island, which was not developed until the latter half of the 16th century, date from the year 1169. In the past, the island was chiefly a gardener’s haven, and gardens, vineyards and mills gradually grew up in the vicinity. Renaissance and Baroque houses began to appear later on, along with palaces with gardens. The famous potters’ market was established here in 1599 and is held to this day.
