The 4-star castle hotel in the heart of Tuscany

Beauty, serenity, authenticity and hospitality are the key words to describe Villa le Barone: an elegant and refined country house amidst the glorious hills of Tuscany, close to the famous Romanesque church of San Leolino in the town of Panzano in Chianti.

The 4-star hotel boasts a total of 28 rooms, some with their own terrace, each appointed and decorated in its own style. The hotel rooms are in the main villa and in the former agricultural buildings which were recently renovated. The salons are inviting, elegantly designed with furniture and pictures drawn from époques past.

Experience and enjoy Chianti

Dinner, based on typical Tuscan recipes, is served in the restaurant, which formerly housed the wine cellars, or out on the terrace weather permitting. Wonderful little secluded hideaways are found in the park-like setting, where guests can find a quiet nook to read or just to sit and soak in the beauty of the surroundings hills.

The hotel’s own swimming pool is set amidst a colourful rose garden of many different varieties, your eyes roaming across vineyards and olive groves, even the tennis court affords breathtaking views of the surrounding hills of the Chianti region.

Yet this 4-star hotel in the Commune Greve in Chianti is located centrally enough that you are within effortless reach of many of Tuscany’s most beautiful towns, as you are some of the world’s most renowned wine producers. Whether on your own two feet or pedalling along on a bicycle, each outing is a source of genuine enjoyment and complete relaxation.

Le Barone and the Della Robbia family

As far back as the Renaissance, Le Barone was already the seat of the Della Robbia family. When it came into the possession of Duchess Franca Visconti, a descendant of the original owners, it was transformed into a small luxury hotel.
Count Corso Aloisi de Larderel and his wife, the current owners and descendants of the duchess, now look after their guests. They make every effort to greet their hotel guests in person, to ensure the continued style of this establishment and to meet their guests’ highest quality expectations.

Discover the Chianti region and Tuscany

The location of this Castle Hotel in the heart of Chianti, close to Panzano, a small town famous for its wines, lends itself as a base for trips to Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano and many other towns in Tuscany.

In the immediate vicinity of Villa Le Barone are numerous small villages, villages which have garnered world-wide acclaim due to their very special atmosphere and architecture: Lamole, Castellina, Montefioralle and Greve, where, as the story would have it, the famous Mona Lisa is supposed to have lived. Greve is also the birthplace of Giovanni Da Verrazzano, who discovered what would later become known as the Hudson River and New York harbour.

Florence, Sienna and San Gimignano

Hotel Villa Le Barone is always glad to organize visits and excursions in order to help their guests discover Tuscany, and the Chianti region in particular. Sightseeing tours in Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano with highly qualified tourist guides, visits to the famous gardens close to Florence and Sienna, painting courses, cooking classes, wine tastings, walks, bicycle tours and golf.

The beautiful Ugolino golf course (Circolo del Golf Ugolino Firenze) is just a 20-minute car ride from the villa.
