Since its distant beginnings in 1395, many great names have found their way onto the list of former “Lords of Zdikau and Winterberg“.
The estate we know today came about under the noble Thun-Hohenstein family, who transformed Zdikov into a hunting manse where they could appropriately entertain their guests. Today’s owners have turned the old castle into a true  jewel of a castle hotel.
Aside from comfortable, spacious rooms and suites with their own salon, a very warm, elegant restaurant has also been created – where today’s guests can savour the light, yet famously delicious specialities of Bohemian cuisine. The owners, Helena and Helmut Müller, take personal care of their guests’ ever need, also happy to share their expert advice when it comes to selecting outstanding domestic wines. During nice weather, enjoy a cool Pils out on the terrace, or perhaps beneath the old linden tree in the castle courtyard.
This is a castle for all seasons: the pristine natural setting of the Sumava National Park, with its mountain peaks, high moors and the last virgin forest in Central Europe’s broadest area of contiguous forests, draws summertime hikers and bikers; in winter, alpine and cross-country skiers, along with snowshoers, are all captivated by the area. Culture lovers are more than happy to rediscover the inimitable charm of the old Bohemian Crown Lands with the thousands of castles and palaces. The capital, Prague, is world-famous, of course, as are the towns of Budweis and Cesky Krumlov. The hotel also offers day trips in its own mini bus.  
Where once the coaches of nobility were housed, today’s guests can unwind in the “Bath House” with its delightful wellness amenities.  The evenings are focused squarely on enjoyment of “the finer things”, accompanied by the crackle of an open fire!
