A patrician house in Vienna’s Artists Quarter, originally built as the residence of an industrialist, home since 1991 to the Altstadt Vienna. The owner – a cosmopolitan in his own right – has made it his mission to create a “home-style” feeling for his guests.
The Altstadt Vienna is directly behind the Museum Quarter and only a five-minute walk from the nearest underground station. The magnificent Ringstrasse with its famous sights is ten minutes away, as is Vienna’s longest shopping street, the Mariahilferstrasse. From our 42 rooms and suites, which are spread out between five floors, guests can enjoy splendid views out over the rooftops of Vienna and of St. Ulrich’s Church across the way. All rooms and suites are individually appointed – no two rooms are alike. Whether classic Viennese style or exquisite design – all rooms at the Altstadt Vienna are distinguished by their comfortable ambience and modern comforts, including free W-LAN. The Matteo Thun Designer Rooms, which were opened in 2006, are particularly elegant, reviving Vienna’s belle époque in a truly modern way. The owner’s extensive art collection is represented throughout the house, underscoring the personal touch of the Altstadt Vienna. The heart of the hotel is the so-called “Red Salon” with its open fireplace. A delightful place to relax, perhaps in the afternoon over tea and cakes, or in the evening with a glass of fine wine. The Red Salon is also a popular venue for readings, concerts and festivities of all kinds. Everywhere in the Altstadt Vienna, you will encounter personal and charming service – be that at breakfast in the Red Salon, when we obtain opera, theatre or concert tickets on your behalf, or when we arrange ball packages for the likes of the famous Opera Ball. The Altstadt Vienna has been awarded the Austrian Environmental Seal for Tourism Establishments. Altstadt Vienna - the art of hospitality.
