It all began when a Viennese brewing entrepreneur, during the boom years of the mid 19th century, had his dream villa built in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria. Many wonderfully contented guests still profit from his efforts to this day.
It was there, where the Gosau Valley is at its most beautiful, where the mountain scenery is at its most impressive and the world-famous high valley in the shadow of the Dachstein is unsurpassed in its untamed romance, that the villa was to stand. That, at all events, was the expressed goal of Moritz Faber when, in 1850, he had his country house built – the most beautiful, most splendid embodiment of the Salzkammergut villa style – in the midst of his most beloved natural setting.
It was to become a proud property featuring finely engraved gables, a tower roof, arcades and extensive wooden balconies, nestled between meadows and forests, in the midst of untouched countryside. At the place where Moritz Faber held court, even the emperor himself became an important part of the picture, a frequent guest of the wealthy beer brewer during his hunting trips.
Even today, guests of this estate owned by the Koller family – an estate which experienced the ups and downs of history spanning two world wars –still feel like they are being treated like royalty.  Now in the second generation of their family, these hospitable owners have renovated the property one piece at a time, creating an architectural treasure featuring the most modern of hotel comforts.
Tasteful rooms and suites are a temptation for guests to stay on and enjoy the magnificent view. A rustic elegance and all-natural cuisine are the hallmarks of the hotel that offers holiday guests, not only a peaceful oasis with a large swimming pool, but also a setting in which seminar participants discover creativity and inspiration.
And when the winter comes to the Gosau Valley, the country house becomes transformed into a snow-covered fairy castle with the lure of numerous ski slopes in the immediate vicinity. Then, in the evening, one can enjoy the sauna or steam bath, or sit cosily in front of the open fire in the hotel bar. Whether alone, as a couple or a whole family, here, at 800 m above sea level, one can feel comfortable, relax and forget about everyday life..
