The wrought-iron inn sign, the light and friendly frescoes on the spankingly clean façade and the flower baskets beneath the windows, give you a hint from the outside, of what will become a culinary certainty on the inside.
Awaiting guests of the country hotel and cultural inn, the “Strasserwirt”, is relaxation and an absolute sense of wellbeing. And this hasn’t just been the case since the popular wellness wave hit these shores, even though the sauna and massage services, along with our mind, vitality and meditation programmes, do indeed make their own contribution to a glorious sensation of ease.
The house, whose roots extend back to the 6th century AD, is 400 years old in its current form.
Fresh produce from the farmers of the Pustertal region continue to be the foundation, upon which chef Werner Gander constructs those creations which, according to the Tiroler Tageszeitung, have made him a “master of light cuisine”. In spite of his love for healthy, vitality-packed dishes, here in the old dining room dating from 1744, Gander still has kept a special place in his heart for traditional Tyrolean specialities, such as “Schlipfkrapfen” pasties and a “Villgrater” farmhouse roast. There is no doubt, the three-day “Strasserwirt Culinary Feel-Good Experience” has more than earned its name.
You also feel utterly at ease in the cosy rooms and the comfortable Egger-Lienz suites of this four-star hotel, whose décor has been selected with tender care, custom-tailored to each individual room. This love for interior design reflects a similar love for art and culture in general. For example, the hotel organises excursions to rarities of regional culture, such as the “Wegelater Saw”, still in working condition to this day. Or, on occasion, contemporary literary figures will gather in the “Literary Garden” to exchange ideas with one another

Produce from local farmers is combined with a healthful, agreeable approach to cooking and, last but not least, the Strasserwirt’s herb gardens, providing many ingredients which our guests are later able enjoy in a creative, refined form.

Fine, sensitive Tyrolean cuisine, prepared with love, dedication, body and soul by the gourmet hands of Werner Gander, ensures that any and every visit to the Strasserwirt’s restaurant and lounges is an extraordinary experience.

The Strasserwirt’s wine cellar conceals vinological treasures in far from insignificant numbers – friendly staff will present these special wines, attentive to guests’ preferences and always willing to share their expertise.

The individually appointed rooms and suites, each a unique treasure unto itself, invite you to unwind, let go and discover renewed energy.
