Castle Hotel Rosenau
Castle Hotel Rosenau
Schloss Rosenau - Lower Austria - Austria
The freemason castle of Rosenau, known far beyond the borders of Austria, is home not only to a famous museum but also to one of Lower Austria's most stunning castle hotels.
A romantic Renaissance castle
When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart embarked on his famous journey to Prague, reliable historical sources say that he altered his route in order to travel via Schloss Rosenau. Amadeus, a passionate freemason, wanted to visit his fellow masons there, they having founded a freemasons' lodge in the heart of the Waldviertel region at the castle of Count Schallenberg in the 18th century.
In 1593, Rosenau was first expanded into a renaissance castle, undergoing further remodelling and growth 150 years later, based on plans drawn up by the famous baroque architect, Munggenast. Rosenau owes its current appearance to restorations conducted in the 80's. Margit Zulehner, the current owner of castle hotel Rosenau, makes every effort to preserve for the future this jewel of the baroque and its valuable art treasures, all of which have been entrusted to her care. Together with her team, she is the perfect host for her guests' romantic getaways, relaxing holidays, successful seminars and conferences incorporating state-of-the-art technology, as well as stylish festivities held in a tradition-rich setting.
Located on the 2nd floor of the castle is the hotel itself, magnificently appointed with antiques and oriental carpets. Culture lovers, romantics and bridal couples are all sincerely welcome.
Weddings at Rosenau Castle
Getting married at castle hotel Rosenau has a special flair all its own. After the ceremony in the castle's church, guests are awaited by a festive wedding banquet, after which the happy couple plants its own rose bush in the wedding garden, before withdrawing to spend their wedding night on a four-poster "bed of roses".
The stylishly romantic hotel suites couldn't be more inviting places to dream, stay and reside. Enjoy hours of tranquillity and togetherness during our "You & I: time for one another" package. True treats from our kitchens and cellars are certain to thrill gourmet palates beneath the romantic vaulted ceilings of the castle.
Sports & Wellness
Sports fans will find nearby opportunities for golf, horseback riding and tennis. And when it is time to relax, guests can look forward to our tastefully revitalised wellness area, which also features an array of massage and beauty services.
Special Features:
In 1974, after having unravelled Rincolin's symbolic frescoes in the main vestibule, historians came to the opinion that the regally appointed rooms of the south wing were those of a freemasons' lodge. Thereupon, the Grand Lodge of Austria decided to establish a Museum of Freemasonry at this site. Since that time, it has regularly hosted special exhibitions, while its rite rooms continue to be used for meetings of Austrian and international lodges.
