The Salzkammergut, lake district near Salzburg, refers to the salt which was responsible for Salzburg’s early prominence and wealth. Splendid palaces, stunning cathedrals, and magnificent castles are surrounded by dark-green forests, marvelous lakes, towering mountain peaks and picturesque villages.

The province of Carinthia offers many waters embraced by the majestic mountains of southern Austria. These lakes are simply lovely and in summertime their waters warm to a comfortable temperature for swimming. With Italy as its neighbor, this is a region of dramatic beauty.
