Historic Hotels of America
Historic Hotels of America offers more than 215 hotels located in 41 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Representing both the depth of American history from the early Colonial Period to the mid-20th century, and the breadth of the regional and geographic expanse of the country, the collection showcases the American experience. Hotels such as the Perry Hotel in Iowa, offer the opportunity to sample small-town life while the Waldorf-Astoria in New York and the Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles share a glimpse of big-city grandeur. Resorts such as the Greenbrier in West Virginia, The Grand in Michigan, and the Mount Washington Resort at Bretton Woods in New Hampshire, have been delighting guests for generations.
Historic Hotels of America is a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation in the United States. To qualify for membership, hotels must be at least 50 years old, listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places or recognized locally as having historic significance. Established in 1989 with 32 original hotel members, Historic Hotels of America recognizes and promotes these hotels for their historic integrity, architectural quality and outstanding preservation efforts made by owners and managers.
